Danone, the French food and beverage giant, has announced plans to close its plant-based milk facility in Bridgeton (NJ).
According to media reports, the closure will affect 147 workers and is scheduled to take place by the end of August. The factory manufactures dairy alternatives under the Silk and So Delicious brands.
The decision follows a strategic evaluation of Danone’s manufacturing network, aimed at improving efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Production from the Bridgeton plant will be transferred to other locations within the company’s network.
A spokesperson for Danone commented: “To keep up with consumer demand, we must consistently run an agile, cost-effective and efficient manufacturing network. This requires us to continuously evaluate our operations and network to ensure they are optimal”.
