Nomad Foods, the European frozen food specialist, is to shut its manufacturing plant in Rorschach, Switzerland, as part of an operational review. The facility, which produces frozen vegetables and ready meals under the Findus brand, is scheduled for closure due to what the company described as a “challenging market environment” and “significant cost pressures”.
The decision is expected to impact 37 employees at the site. Nomad Foods, which owns a brand portfolio including Birds Eye, Iglo and Findus, stated that the move followed a thorough evaluation of its Swiss operations to ensure long-term competitiveness. According to the company, the Rorschach site had faced difficulties in maintaining cost-efficiency within the current economic climate.
A spokesperson for the company commented: “This proposal is part of our ongoing efforts to optimise our supply base and ensure we have a sustainable business model”.
