Patatas Melendez, the Spanish fresh potato producer, has invested more than €50 million ($56 million) in the technological transformation of its Melendez 4.0 production facility in Medina del Campo, Spain.
The investment has been allocated to incorporate automation systems, robotics and data analytics across potato selection, packaging, and marketing processes. According to the company, the project aims to optimize manufacturing operations, reinforce product traceability and expand overall production capacity.
Patatas Melendez CEO Javier Melendez noted that the primary goal is to leverage technology to gain efficiency and competitiveness, while generating greater value for farmers and supporting the future of potato cultivation in Castilla y León.
Alongside industrial modernization, the strategy incorporates environmental measures including reduced water consumption, the use of renewable energy, carbon footprint measurement and initiatives focused on circular economy principles and climate risk management.
Founded in 1999, Patatas Melendez operates over 50,000 square metres of production facilities, employs 320 staff, and currently markets more than 180,000 tonnes of fresh potatoes annually.
