Italy: Gruppo Pini to build meat facility in Masone

Ferrarini Lab, a subsidiary of Italian meat products company Gruppo Pini, is investing €99.9 million ($109.5 million) to construct a new production hub in Masone, Reggio Emilia.

The project has received a favourable evaluation from the Emilia-Romagna regional authority and has been submitted to the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy for funding support through Invitalia. The new plant will involve the redevelopment of an industrial site that has been disused for over ten years, through demolition and reconstruction designed to meet high environmental and energy standards.

The facility will modernise and consolidate operations currently carried out at the company’s historic Rivaltella site. It will be dedicated to meat processing and the production of cooked hams, roasts, bacon, sliced meats and new product lines. The investment will safeguard around 145 jobs from the Rivaltella site and expand the total workforce to approximately 159 employees at full capacity.

The initiative will increase production capacity to approximately 18,000 tonnes per year, supporting turnover growth by expanding the product range and boosting exports, particularly to the EU and North America.
