The Old Canal Quay Spirits Company, the Dublin-based drinks business, has agreed to acquire the Irish Mist Liqueur brand from Heaven Hill Brands.
Created in 1947 at Tullamore distillery in County Offaly, the expression combines Irish whiskey, honey and spices. The sale covers Zilorto Limited, a subsidiary of Heaven Hill Ireland that owns the brand. Previously, Campari Group bought the brand from William Grant & Sons in 2010 before selling it in 2017 to Heaven Hill alongside Carolans Irish Cream Liqueur in a deal worth US$165 million.
David Phelan, CEO of Old Canal Quay Spirits Company, commented: “Irish Mist Liqueur was at the core of Ireland’s rich spirits history, unique heritage, and remarkable character, and we are honoured and excited to now play a role in reinvigorating this iconic Irish brand for today’s consumer”.
Allan Latts, co-president of Heaven Hill Brands, added: “Irish Mist is an iconic Irish liqueur, and the right move is placing it in the hands of an owner with Irish roots and the focus to grow it the way it deserves”.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
