Bayou Best Foods, the US-based plant-based seafood manufacturer, has acquired its German peer BettaF!sh to expand its international footprint. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Founded in 2024, Bayou Best Foods produces plant-based shrimp distributed across the US through foodservice channels. Berlin-based BettaF!sh, part of the Wunderfish company, develops seafood alternatives made using European seaweed, including plant-based tuna and salmon products.

According to company statements, the acquisition combines two women-led businesses with complementary portfolios. In the short term, Bayou Best Foods plans to make its pea-protein-based shrimp available to BettaF!sh’s foodservice partners in Europe. Meanwhile, BettaF!sh’s flagship products, including TU-NAH and SAL-NOM, will be introduced to the US distribution network over time.

Commenting on the transaction, Kelli Wilson, CEO of Bayou Best Foods, said: “Our goal has always been to bring great-tasting, ocean-friendly seafood to more people, and BettaF!sh is exactly the kind of partner that makes that possible. We share the same belief that seafood should be delicious, accessible, and sustainable”.

Deniz Ficicioglu, founder and CEO of BettaF!sh, described the deal as a “natural next chapter” that will enable the combined business to accelerate growth in international markets.
