Henkell Freixenet, the German sparkling wine producer, has entered into negotiations to acquire a majority stake in Maison Pommery, the French champagne producer.

The discussions, which are scheduled to last for two months, concern a proposed strategic combination between the two family-owned groups. The prospective deal remains subject to due diligence, final contracts, consultations and regulatory approvals, and Maison Pommery noted that there is no guarantee that the talks will result in a transaction.

The proposed partnership would create a global player in sparkling wine. Maison Pommery possesses a champagne portfolio including Pommery & Greno, Vranken and Charles Lafitte, while its prospective partner’s subsidiary, Henkell International, commands a portfolio featuring Henkell, Freixenet and Mionetto.

Financially, Maison Pommery & Associs reported a 3.6% decline in consolidated revenue to €293.2 million ($340.4 million) for 2025. However, its net income rose to €31.9 million ($37.0 million), compared to €800,000 ($928,717) the previous year, following the divestment of Heidsieck & Co Monopole. By comparison, Henkell Freixenet generated net revenue of €1.25 billion ($1.45 billion) during the same financial year.
