Ferrero, the Italian confectionery group, is advancing with plans to establish its first production base in Romania through the acquisition of an existing industrial site, according to a Just Food report.
Amid reports that the privately-owned snacks giant is looking to set up a facility in Timișoara, the company confirmed it is in talks to buy the site. The project reflects its intention to build a state-of-the-art facility by leveraging Romania’s strong production tradition, strategic location and available skilled talent. While the owner of the Nutella and Kinder brands has a commercial office in the market, it currently lacks active production plants there.
The Romanian project follows recent international capital expenditure moves by the company, including an $86 million investment in its Guanajuato facility in Mexico and a €60 million ($67.2 million) investment in French production facilities in June. In addition, Ferrero acquired Purely Elizabeth in August.
The company did not disclose the financial value of the Timișoara transaction, construction timelines, earmarked product lines, or targeted regional markets, stating further operational details will be provided at the appropriate time.
