Horse Soldier Bourbon, the US spirits brand backed by Californian wine and spirits company Gallo, has opened its new $200 million American Freedom Distillery in Somerset (KY).
Named Horse Soldier Farms, the 240-acre site near Lake Cumberland officially opened on the 4th July. The development includes the 50,000 sq ft American Freedom Distillery, The Outpost retail store, and event spaces. Previously distilled by Middle West Spirits in Columbus, Ohio, production of the brand is slated to transition fully to the new Somerset location later this year. Once fully operational, Horse Soldier Farms aims to produce 100,000 barrels annually.
The brand’s co-founder and CEO John Koko commented: “We believe our greatest contribution now is to build: a company, opportunities for others and a brand worthy of Kentucky’s Bourbon heritage”.
To support the development, Horse Soldier received $29.9 million in support from the state’s Tourism Development Act, a project anticipated to create more than 400 jobs when it was first announced.
