Australia: SPC to close juice plant in manufacturing revamp

SPC, the Australian fruit and vegetable processing firm, has announced it will close its juice manufacturing facility in Shepparton, Victoria, as part of a broader strategic overhaul of its operations.

The closure, scheduled for later this year, follows a review aimed at consolidating manufacturing to improve efficiency and competitiveness. Production currently handled at the site will be integrated into SPC’s other facilities in the region. While the company has not disclosed the specific financial impact of the move, the revamp is designed to streamline its supply chain and focus on core growth categories.

Commenting on the decision, an SPC spokesperson stated: “This consolidation is a necessary step to ensure the long-term sustainability of our business and to better serve our customers in a rapidly evolving market”.

The move comes as SPC continues to navigate a challenging environment for local manufacturing. Last year, the company, which produces a wide range of packaged fruits, tomatoes and prepared meals, sought further investment to modernise its primary Shepparton plant.
