USA: WhiteWave Foods acquires Wallaby and Vega

The dairy producer WhiteWave Food has agreed to purchase Wallaby, a manufacturer of organic dairy yoghurt , for approximately $125 million. The deal, subject to regulatory approval, is expected to be completed in the third quarter of the year.

The acquisition of the California-based Wallaby will provide WhiteWave with a larger portfolio of yoghurt and kefir beverages as well as a West-Coast based facilities and growth opportunities, according to a WhiteWave spokesperson.

Meanwhile WhiteWave has also completed the acquisition of Vega, a nutrition supplier company with a base in Vancouver, Canada for $550 million. This acquisition will drive the business to “a new and fast-growing category in nutritional powders and bars with additional innovation opportunities, and enhances its position as position as a global leader of plant-based foods and beverages”, the company said.
