Worldwide water bottling company Nestle Waters has teamed up with dairy and drinks multinational Danone and California-based startup Origin Materials to form the Natur’ALL Bottle Alliance to develop a PET bottle made from bio-based, 100% sustainable and renewable resources.
According to Nestle Waters: “the project uses biomass feedstocks, such as previously used cardboard and sawdust, so it does not divert resources or land from food production for human or animal consumption”. It is said that they aim to develop to produce at least 95% of PET bottles with bio-based materials by the end of 2022, eventually scaling up to 100% from current technology, producing 30% bioPET bottles.
The new technology is aimed to be available for the entire food and beverage industry and aims to support moves towards zero environmental impact by 2030.
