Chocolate giant Lindt & Sprungli is to close a manufacturing plant operated by its subsidiary Russell Stover in Montrose, CO, with the loss of up to 400 jobs.
The move is said to form part of changes to the company’s production, retail and distribution networks, which will also see the expansion of plants in Corsicana, TX as well as Abilene and Iola, KS where around 300 new jobs will be created.
Commenting on the decision, Russell Stover CEO Andy Deister said: “Having been in business since 1923, we know the importance of keeping pace with the changing tastes and preferences of the people who buy our chocolates. Just as consumers change their preferred flavor or package, they’re changing the way they shop for our products, and we’re making sure we have the infrastructure to deliver on their expectations”.
Lindt & Sprungli acquired Russell Stover in 2014.
