Cargill, the global food and agribusiness firm, has announced the closure of its turkey processing plant in Springdale (AR), effective as of 1st August.
Built in 1965, the Springdale plant produces fresh and frozen whole turkeys, bone-in turkey breasts and case-ready turkey products.
“This was not an easy decision to make given the impact on the approximately 1,100 people who work there and local producers”, a Cargill spokesperson said. “However, it is the right move to make for the future of our turkey business”.
“We will honour contractual obligations to growers and continue to process turkey and other proteins at more than 40 primary, case-ready and value-added protein facilities in the United States and Canada”, they added.
