Buderim, an Australian producer of ginger products, has announced that it is acquiring the Hawaii, US based macadamia producer Royal Hawaiian Orchards and merging it with rival grower MacFarms to create the largest macadamia business in the continental USA.
Royal Hawaiian Orchards and Buderim are respectively Hawaii’s largest and second largest macadamia nut orchard owners and together account for more than 65% of macadamia production in the US, according to Buderim. MacFarms produces macadamia snacks in flavours such as sea salt and milk chocolate, while Royal Hawaiian Orchards offers a broad portfolio that includes both plain and chocolate-coated macadamias, as well as fruit & macadamia ‘crunches’.
Commenting on the deal, Buderim CEO Andrew Bond said: “This transformational acquisition creates a platform for us to become a global leader in macadamia nut snacks. Leading the U.S. market – where there is significant growth potential for this healthy, nutrient-rich snack – will help us lay the groundwork for making our macadamia nuts a household staple across the world”.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
