E-commerce giant Amazon is planning to launch a number of new private label brands over the coming months as it looks to step up competition against more established grocery retailers, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.
Baby food, tea, coffee and vitamin lines are reported to be in the pipeline with proposed brand names said to include Happy Belly, Wickedly Prime and Mana Bear.
Sources that spoke to the Wall St Journal said that the company was also planning to sell household items such as laundry detergent and nappies, to be available from early June.
Amazon already sells private label products under its Basic Labels brand, focused on categories such as furniture and electricals. The new private label brands are reportedly to be made available only to consumers of Amazon’s premium Amazon Prime service, which costs $99 per year in the US.
