Aldi, the German retail giant, has announced the sale of 170 Winn-Dixie And Harveys supermarket stores in the US to C&S Wholesale Grocers, a consortium of private investors.
Aldi bought 400 Winn-Dixie And Harveys grocery stores and 170 Winn-Dixie liquor stores in 2023 and plans to convert the remaining 220 Winn-Dixie And Harveys stores to the Aldi format to expand its store footprint in the US.
“When we announced our acquisition of Southeastern Grocers, we shared that we intended for a meaningful number of Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets to continue to operate, and we’re delivering on that promise while also supporting Aldi’s growth,” commented Jason Hart, CEO of Aldi USA. “With our expansion across the country, Aldi is earning the trust of more shoppers in more communities than ever before, bringing us closer to becoming America’s first stop for groceries”.
The divestment follows Aldi’s announcement last year that it plans to add 800 new stores to its US network by 2028 through a combination of new store openings and store conversions.
