UK retailer Tesco has announced the launch of a new range of plant-based meals under the name Wicked Kitchen.
The supermarket said it had partnered with chef Derek Sarno to develop a line aligned to growing demand for vegetarian and vegan food, by celebrating “everything that’s ‘wicked’ and tasty about plants”.
Tesco said that the proportion of UK consumers following a plant-based diet had grown and was set to increase again by 10% over 2018.
“From crispy carrot ‘pastrami’ to wicked-meated barbecued ‘shrooms and Sourdough Pizza, the vibrant wraps, meals and salads have all the zing, punch and crunch to encourage Brits to eat more veg”, the company said in a statement.
The Wicked Kitchen line is comprised of 11 ready meals and 9 on-the-go options, including items such as sandwiches and wraps, salads, pizza and various ready meals. The new products are available from January 2018 in Tesco stores across the UK, with prices ranging from £3-4 ($4.06 to $5.41).
