Sofina Foods, a Canada-based supplier of pork and seafood products, has announced plans to close its Young’s plant on Marsden Road in Grimsby, UK.
According to a FoodBev report, Sofina Foods had determined the Marsden Road site was no longer viable, and now planned to transfer white fish processing operations to the Humberstone Road site in the town, and smoked operations to an existing site in Fraserburgh, Scotland.
“If the proposals go ahead, we will work hard to maintain the employment of all colleagues throughout this transition”, Sofina Foods is quoted as saying.
The Marsden Road facility in Grimsby is set to close in October and could reportedly result in the loss of 285 roles, although new jobs will be created at the Humberstone Road and Fraserburgh sites.
