UK: Sainsbury reports rise in Free From sales

Europe, Food

Sainsbury has announced that, in the run up to Christmas, its “Free From” foods range has seen a rise in sales of 64% compared to 2012.

The retailer attributed the increase to the growing numbers of consumers with food allergies or otherwise opting for gluten, dairy or wheat free products, but who did not want to miss out on traditional Christmas treats. Sainsbury said it had also expanded its own Free From range to 82 products, adding 13 exclusive products for the Christmas period.

Free From buyer Catherine Pintille said: “We understand that suffering from allergies and intolerances can be difficult and we want all our customers to feel they are able to enjoy everyday foods as well as traditional Christmas treats”.
