Purity Brewing Company has launched Gnarly, a limited edition strong black beer featuring a champagne style bottle.
Promoted as a “deeply indulgent, beautifully balanced beer”, Gnarly is brewed with a variety of Marris Otter, Crystal Rye, Smoked and Black Malts, hopped with Northern Brewer, Cascade, Chinook and conditioned for six months in traditional oak whisky casks.
Paul Halsey, managing director of Purity, said: “Gnarly uses champagne yeast which gives the beer a light and tight carbonation and the oak whisky barrels provide an unmistakable and decadent twist”.
The product’s name is said to from a word that became popular in the 1970s to describe a dangerous but exhilarating ride.
A limited release of 1,000 bottles isbeing made available, priced at £14.95 ($23.41) each.
