The UK arm of German dairy firm Muller has announced an investment of £100 million ($135 million) to develop, manufacture and market a new generation of dairy products made using British milk.
The investment, which is expected to be implemented over the next 18 months, will be focussed on strengthening the categories where the company already has a leading position, as well as developing new branded and private label products in categories where the company is not yet present, Muller said in a statement.
The company added that it planned to carry on growing brands such as Mullerlight, Muller Corner and Muller Rice, as well as to create a strong partnership with Mondelez to develop a new generation of co-branded desserts.
Three facilities in in Shropshire will be upgraded as a result of the investment, including doubling the size of its Telford plant by 2020, Muller said.
“This unprecedented level of investment will ensure that we can offer an increasing portfolio of great yogurt and desserts products made in Britain with milk from British farmers, which meet the needs of our customers”, commented Bergen Merey, managing director of Muller Yogurt & Desserts.
