International convenience food producer Greencore has announced the acquisition of UK-based firm The Sandwich Factory for £15 million ($19.6 million) from meat and lunch foods producer Cranswick.
The Sandwich Factory has a single facility based in Atherstone, Warwickshire and produces multiple varieties of food-to-go products for convenience stores and foodservice channels. The firm generated net revenue of £42 million ($55 million) in the financial year ending 31st March 2016.
Greencore said the acquisition would help boost its presence in the high growth food-to-go category as well as offer the company a modest increase in overall capacity.
Commenting on the deal, Greencore Group CEO Patrick Coveney said: “The Sandwich Factory will extend our reach into customer channels in which we are currently under represented, notably convenience stores and the travel sector, and will also bring new product types into the Greencore portfolio”.
