Gama spoke to Federico Bricolo, President of Veronafiere, ahead of the latest edition of Vinitaly.
What are your expectations for this year’s Vinitaly?
Vinitaly is the trade fair brand behind the international promotion of Italian wine. Consequently, we are looking forward to a dynamic and appealing Vinitaly that will meet the needs of our exhibitors. This is why we have worked hard on content and incoming fronts alike to offer effective and valuable responses in the current complex geo-economic context. Vinitaly 2025 aims to pursue the event’s international profile by confirming or even bettering the share of international operators posted in 2024: more than 30,000 from 140 countries (31% of the total). Vinitaly has always been an incubator for new trends. New themes will make their debut this April in Verona that also reflect the interests of the more than 4,000 companies in attendance. In particular, we will launch Vinitaly Tourism, dedicating the entire day of 9th April to wine tourism, as well as having a specific area for no and low alcohol wines. This latter trend is posting significant growth in many markets.

How should alcoholic drink companies ensure success in the face of global political uncertainty, price inflation, supply chain challenges and other headwinds?
As mentioned, the current scenario is far from promising for the wine sector which, in addition to falling consumption and health concerns, now also has to face up to unexpected protectionist trade policies in the United States, which is a strategic market. Companies are certainly getting ready to respond. For its part, Veronafiere / Vinitaly will further intensify the geographic reach of our international action, especially in emerging areas with high potential that may represent new outlets for Italian wine. The first edition of Vinitaly India, which took place this March, points in this direction.
What key trends are shaping alcoholic drinks in 2025?
No and low alcohol wines will certainly be the main trend in 2025, having already been recognised by Vinitaly last year and this year officially included in the event. This new segment will be highlighted in Verona through a number of market focus events, as well as a specific Wine Showcase, an exclusive tasting counter and even the inclusion of NoLo wines in the cocktail recipes showcased in the Mixology area.
