Insight by Gama Compass™
MANCHESTER – 26th January 2015: Purple has emerged as the packaging colour group associated with the highest average product cost for new launches in the food industry, according to the latest research from Gama Compass™.
Across a sample of many thousands of products reported by Gama Compass™ in 2014, food products with purple as the primary pack colour had an average cost of $2.26 per 100ml or 100g, making purple colours more associated with higher product prices in the industry. For comparison, the figure was around 16% higher than the global average for new food launches of $1.97.
The premium associations of purple colours are in part linked to premium-priced markets. For instance, purple was used more than twice as frequently in the chocolate market than in food launches as whole; the average price for new chocolate products being well in excess of the overall food industry average.
