German discounter Aldi invested €60 million ($63.2 million) in the opening of a 57,000-square-metre distribution centre located in Moita, Portugal.
According to sources, the new facility, which is part of the retailer’s expansion plan announced in 2020, will supply goods to more than 150 stores and it will centralise Aldi’s logistic operations, which were previously split between the Montijo and Quinta do Anjo platforms.
“We have always seen Portugal as an opportunity to grow in Europe and we are very excited to be able to celebrate yet another great achievement at the national level. This distribution centre symbolises our growth and what we intend to achieve in Portugal in the coming years”, said the CEO of Aldi Portugal, Wolfgang Graff.
The facility has 89 loading and unloading docks, 60 parking lots for trucks, and a storage capacity of 14,000 sq. meters for refrigerated rooms.
Aldi’s expansion plan also includes the opening of 200 stores by 2025.
