Scandinavian food giant Orkla has announced that it plans to build a new biscuit factory, which is to be located in the Latvian capital Riga.
In a press release, the company said that the decision was part of the group’s strategy of consolidating production in fewer but more efficient plants and investing in new, modern technology and concentrating production in one facility.
Commenting on the decision, Ann-Beth Freuchen, executive vice president and CEO of Orkla Confectionery & Snacks said: “The new production plant will allow us to focus investments on new technology, increase cost effectiveness and create a stronger production platform”.
Orkla said its existing biscuit plants in Kunglav and Riga would be closed and production shifted to the new factory by the end of 2022, although a production development centre will remain operational in Kunglav.
