Dutch retailer Jumbo has launched a new range of table sauces developed in partnership with Verspillingsfabriek (‘Waste Factory’), an organization that uses leftover or ‘waste’ ingredients to prepare soups, sauces and spreads.
The new range includes Tomato Ketchup, Curry Ketchup and BBQ Ketchup and, according to sources, was created by Jumbo’s ‘Innovative Lab’ and chef Ton Verhaar, using ‘waste’ tomatoes from Jumbo’s supply chain and other natural ingredients.
Jumbo’s commercial director, Ed van de Weerd said: “Of course, ketchup is a well-known product, but ketchup developed from rescued fresh tomatoes tastes surprisingly different. We use formulas that contain much less sugar and salt, resulting in three delicious fresh ketchups. If you compare these with other ketchups on the market, you can really taste the difference”.
The ketchups are available in 200ml bottles, priced at €1.99 ($2.23).
