Danish Crown, the Denmark-based meat processor, has announced the acquisition of Dutch meat firm Bacon Specialist Zandbergen via its subsidiary Tulip.
Bacon Specialist Zandbergen offers a range of bacon products, primarily for retailers and the foodservice industry, alongside retail products including bacon cubes and rashers under its own Bacon Specialist Zandbergen brand. Founded in 1984, the firm is based in the Amsterdam suburb of Haarlem, where both its production facilities and administrative offices are located.
Commenting on the move, Danish Crown CEO Jais Valeur said: “Having Baconspecialist Zandbergen as a new member of the Tulip family significantly enhances one of our core competencies. This deal will give us new capabilities and new product options in categories such as fried bacon via a well-run, family business with a strong standing in the market among its customers and consumers. We will maintain and expand the strengths of the company while also incorporating Tulip’s own key competencies”.
