St. Paul, a leading Dutch cheese processor, has announced the acquisition of Koninklijke ERU, an independent Dutch cheese dairy, to create an alliance for the production of a wide range of processed cheese products.
Founded in 1824, Koninklijke ERU is known for brands such as Balans, Goudkuipje and Prestige, with a product range that includes both spreadable and American-style single-slice cheese.
Commenting on the acquisition, St. Paul CEO Dieter Kuijl said: “With this historic step, St. Paul becomes the largest (melted) cheese producer in the Benelux. We are determined to further develop and expand our diverse range of high-quality (melted) cheese products, meeting the diverse needs of consumers, out-of-home, and the food industry”.
In June 2023, Koninklijke ERU joined forces with St. Paul to acquire the processed cheese business of Kasi Food, formerly under the Lekkerkerker Food Group in Lopik.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The deal is subject to approval by the Dutch market authority.
