Mexican dairy company Grupo Lala is set to invest $30 million in the construction of a new facility in Guatemala, according to a report in FoodBev.
Located in Escuintla, the new dairy facility will be 12,000 sq m in size and will produce pasteurized milk, ultrapasteurized milk (UHT) and ice cream, with capacity for five thousand tons of products per month. It is set to support 3,500 direct and indirect jobs by 2018 when the plant become completely functional.
According to a company statement, the new facility was necessitated by growing demand in Guatemala for dairy products.
“The new factory is part of the company’s strategy to consolidate the group’s presence in the Central American region”, Grupo Lala said in a statement. “The facilities will be located in the Michatoya Industrial Park, and will start operations during the first quarter of 2018”.
