Multinational Mexican bakery company Grupo Bimbo has announced the construction of a new metropolitan distribution centre in the Azcapotzalco district of Mexico City.
The result of an investment of M$2.3 billion ($129 million), the 89,000 sq m facility, the purpose of which is to enhance the company’s logistics capacity and to increase productivity and efficiency, will become the largest and the most modern bakery distribution centre in the Americas, Grupo Bimbo said.
Grupo Bimbo chairman and CEO Daniel Servitje commented: “Grupo Bimbo pledges its commitment to the country and to Mexico City. This is where the company was born more than 70 years ago and grew to become a leading company in the world. We believe in the great potential of Mexico City and we invite the private sector to add to the efforts for a more competitive, more prosperous and stronger Mexico”.
Construction on the facility is expected to take 18 months.
