The latest innovation insight from Gama Compass
MANCHESTER – 27th February 2023: This month, Gama turns its gaze towards continued advances in on-the-go breakfast foods, examining a launch pushing in-vogue pulses and legumes as a contender to rival oats in the hot cereals category – Lentiful Instant Lentils.
New to consumers in the US, Lentiful is a four-strong range of single-serve pots that position lentils as an instant hot meal or snack that is “fast, filling and flavorful”, offering “high-protein, high-fiber, nutrient-dense calories”. Touting lentils as “the most overlooked and underrated food in America”, Lentiful also points to the climate and soil health benefits of lentil cultivation, as well as the ability of lentils to absorb any spice or other ingredient, opening up a range of flavour possibilities. Consumers need only add water and microwave – or alternatively combine with hot water – for what Lentiful calls “the easiest, tastiest plant-based lunch or breakfast”.
“While perhaps not having benefitted from the same resurgence in popularity as chickpeas, lentils nonetheless continue to demonstate their worth as a natural, plant-based, high-fibre / high-protein alternative across a broad range of food categories”, commented Gama insights director Tom Warden. “Beyond these established credentials, Lentiful Instant Lentils potentially also opens the door for lentils to stake their claim as an indulgent comfort food, especially if brands are able to continue pushing the boundaries of texture and flavour experience in categories such as breakfast foods”.
