Gelato d’Italia, an Italian manufacturer of branded and private label ice cream, has announced it has completed the acquisition of local peer Giuntoli, a maker of ice creams and ice lollies.
Operating in Europe and North America under brands such as Indianin, Gelato d’Italia, Gelato da Sogno and JoyVeg (the latter a dairy alternative brand), Gelato d’Italia was purchased by the US investment fund Davidson Kempner and Afendis in 2022.
The acquisition of Giuntoli, which had gone into liquidation, will see the company’s factory and other assets pass to Gelato d’Italia.
Commenting on the transaction, Gelato d’Italia CEO Marco Pellegrino said: “This first step strengthens our position in the Italian market, increasing our production capacity and allowing us to grow further. We are pleased to announce that the former Giuntoli employees will restore the plant to full operation by the start of the next summer season”.
