Reliance Consumer Products, the FMCG arm of Indian retail major Reliance Retail Ventures, has announced the acquisition of SIL Foods, a packaged food brand, from hospitality firm Food Service India.
SIL Foods, once James Smith & Co, is a leading Indian brand offering jams, mayonnaise, baked beans and more. It was acquired by Marico in 1993, then by Scandic Food India under Denmark’s Good Food Group. In 2021, Food Service India took over ownership of the brand.
Commenting on the partnership, Reliance Consumer Products Limited COO Ketan Mody said: “SIL Foods, with its trusted legacy, offers an exciting opportunity to bring iconic Indian flavours and products back to consumers in new and innovative formats. We believe that with our expertise in consumer engagement, innovation, and distribution, we can unlock the brand’s full potential and make it even more relevant in today’s fast-evolving marketplace”.
SIL Foods managing director Ajay Mariwala added: “We are thrilled to join forces with Reliance Consumer Products and embark on this new chapter for SIL Foods. RCPL will help breathe new life into the SIL brand by expanding its reach and bringing the authentic SIL products to a broader, modern audience”.
