Johnson and Johnson (J&J), one of the leading companies in the consumer health and pharmaceuticals space, is planning to sell two of its traditional brands in India, according to a report in the Economic Times.
J&J is believed to be looking for a buyer for its Savlon line of antiseptic soap and liquids and its Shower to Shower talcum powder. The brands together are expected to raise over Rs 300 crore (almost $65 million).
According to sources, the transaction would include both brand rights and technical know-how. Wipro Consumer Care, Emami and Dabur are believed to be among the potential bidders.
In the company’s last financial results, the two brands together reported Rs 90 crore in sales ($14.7 million): Rs 65 crore ($10.6 million) for the Savlon business, and Rs 25 crore ($4.1 million) for the smaller Shower To Shower business.
The Economic Times reports that J&J is also contemplating selling the same brands in Taiwan.
