Danone, the food and drinks multinational, has announced it is investing “tens of millions” of euros to upgrade its dairy processing plant in Ochsenfurt, Germany, in order to expand production and improve efficiencies.
The investment is primarily geared towards allowing the plant to manufacture ambient dairy products and also plant-based foods, alongside its existing yoghurt and dairy dessert production lines for brands such as Activia and Dany.
The upgrade, which will be carried out over three to four years, will also encompass environmental improvements such as the ability to transition to more sustainable packaging, the company added.
Commenting on the investment, Hans-Peter Gai, Danone global senior vice president of operations, said: “We are delighted to convert Ochsenfurt into a ‘flexible innovation’ plant. This will allow us to bring innovations to market in smaller quantities, enabling us to address consumer trends faster and more effectively. This makes the plant sustainable and fit for the future”.
