French supermarket group Casino has released its annual sales figures for 2013, showing 15.9% growth on the previous year, LSA reports.
Total sales at the company were €48.6 billion (approx. $66.21 billion), with like-for-like sales (excluding fuel) also showing growth. The company’s strongest performance came in Brazil, where overall growth was up 23.9% with total sales reaching €29.1 billion (approx. $39.64 billion).
In France, meanwhile, growth was more modest, with sales reaching €19.4 billion (approx. $26.43 billion). While this number was up 5.7% overall on 2012, like-for-like sales in the domestic market fell back 2.9%.
The retail group reported a marginal improvement in the performance of its Casino supermarkets and Geant hypermarkets in Q4 (-1.4%) versus Q3 (-3.6%), commenting in its financial statement that: “Groceries performed well at our Geant stores in Q4, with volumes seeing strong growth of 8.1%”.
