FMCG major Unilever is expanding its manufacturing capabilities in Colombia with the launch of a new facility for its Fruco and Del Huerto brands.
According to a Just Food report, the new plant is sited at the company’s existing production complex in Palmira. Said to be the fourth-largest Unilever production centre in the Latin America region, the Palmira facility employs 1,200 staff and supplies products to a total of 16 countries.
“By centralising our operations in Palmira, we are able to improve logistical efficiency, optimise our supply chain, and strengthen our ability to respond to local market demands,“ Unilever is quoted as saying.
Alonso Legarde, director of the Palmira plant, added: “Our new food plant and expansion of our logistics operations center represents a new chapter for the Palmira hub and our development as a business”.
ES Euro reports that the total investment in the plant expansion was 105 billion COP ($25.6 million).
