Lactalis, the French-based dairy giant, has announced plans to invest a further €46.2 million ($50 million) to increase cheese and butter production in the Brazilian city of Uberlandia, in the state of Minas Gerais.
In a statement reported by Just Food, the company said that the investment would be used to establish a new prato cheese manufacturing unit and add an additional butter production line.
Lactalis stated that the prato cheese factory would have a production capacity of 12,000 tonnes annually, while the additional butter line is expected to boost output by 3,600 tonnes per year, reaching an installed capacity of 10,000 tonnes by 2027.
The move is the latest of a series of investments by Lactalis in Brazil, including $42 million pledged in November to enhance operations at seven Minas Gerais sites.
The projects are scheduled for completion by 2027.
