In an attempt to tap into the market for health-oriented and ethical snacking, Fhom Alimentos has launched Bem Organico Crisps, a product claimed to be the first organic product of its kind in Brazil, according to Diario do Grande ABC.

According to information, the product line took over a year and more than R$250 million ($108 million) of investment to develop, requiring changes to production facilities and the creation of partnerships with organic producers. The result is a line that includes products such as standard crisps, ridged crisps and batata palha, a type of thin, fried potato product traditional in Brazil.

Meanwhile Maxpress reports that the crisps have received Ecocert organic certification and also have vegan certification from the Vegan Society of Brazil. Following the launch, the first shipment of the product has already been made, with Pao de Acucar listing items in its stores in the Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Brasilia areas.
