Brazilian beverage producer Ambev has announced an investment in order to increase production capacity for its Corona lager brand in Rio de Janiero state.
According to sources, the new production line started operating on the 24th June at Ambev’s plant in Campo Grande. The investment of R$61 million ($10.8 million) will cater to increased demand for Corona, which saw a 70% increase in sales volume in Q1 2024 compared to the same period of 2023.
The investment will enable the production of the brand’s clear glass bottle, which are printed rather than using paper labels. The Rio de Janeiro facility will reportedly be able to produce, decorate and bottle 80% of “long neck” Corona beers consumed in Brazil.
The new line is said to have a production capacity of 36,000 bottles per hour.
Since 2023, Ambev has invested more than R$1 billion ($177 million) in its operations in Brazil.
