Western Australian meat company D’Orsogna has announced that it has begun construction on a A$66 million ($51.9 million) food manufacturing facility in the city of Melbourne, Victoria.
The firm said the new plant, which will employ 240 people, would establish the firm as a national market leader in the smallgoods and meat protein food sector.
Headquartered in Perth, D’Orsogna markets a range of cured and cooked whole and sliced hams, continental goods, bacon and cooked and fresh sausages.
Commenting on the news, D’Orsogna managing director Brad Thomason said: “D’Orsogna has consistently experienced year on year growth and the new facility will provide a larger production capacity and greater product development opportunities. The new Melbourne site will double our production capacity and manufacture a range of innovative ham, bacon and other meat protein products”.
