USA: Barilla announces expansion in New York state

Food, Manufacture & Distribution, North America

Barilla, the Italy-based pasta manufacturer, is set to expand its manufacturing facility in the Town of Avon (NY).

The world’s leading dry pasta maker will invest nearly $170 million in a two-phase project at the Livingston County site. The company will invest $145 million in phase one, which involves constructing a 52,000-square-foot main building to expand manufacturing operations.

This stage includes adding one new production line and three packaging lines, alongside an additional warehouse facility for storage and distribution. The extra space will allow for the installation of a second line during a future phase two, which accounts for the additional investment. Phase one is scheduled for completion by March 2028.

Barilla expects the latest development to create more than 90 new jobs once both phases are finished, building on the initial $75 million investment made in 2006 ahead of the plant’s opening in 2007.

Melissa Tendick, president of Barilla Americas, stated: “This expansion supports our ability to meet growing demand while remaining focused on what matters most — delivering high-quality pasta that consumers know and trust”. Fabio Pettenari, vice president of supply chain at Barilla Americas, added that the project enables the company to “strengthen our North American supply chain and cut CO2 emissions by approximately 3,000 tons annually”.

The family business reported revenue of €4.84 billion ($5.61 billion) in 2025, with the Americas contributing 22.4% of group sales.
