Brazilian biscuits manufacturer Marilan has announced the acquisition of Casa Suica, a company that produces cakes.
According to sources, Casa Suica has a large portfolio of premium cakes and panettones, enabling Marilan to move into an adjacent category. The deal will also allow the firm to expand product distribution in the South and Southeast of Brazil, two strategic regions for biscuits.
Two years ago, Marilan’s competitor M. Dias Branco bought Piraque with the aim of expanding in the same two regions.
Marilan president Sergio Tavares said: “As well as organic expansion in the biscuits market, acquisitions of companies and entry into new categories and markets are also part of our growth strategy. We have just opened our new industrial unit in Igarassu / PE, and now with this acquisition, Marilan, which is present in more than 70% of Brazilian homes, will be able to expand distribution of the Casa Suica brand, currently concentrated in the South and Southeast Regions”.
