European dairy co-operative Arla has announced its intention to sell cheese plant in Sonthofen, Germany to the dairy company Allgauer Hof-Milch.
Arla said the decision was taken as the speciality cheese produced in Sonthofen no longer followed the strategic plan of its businesses in Germany and Europe.
“All of our production sites in Germany are focused on supplying both the German market and our export markets, playing a crucial role in our delivery of the Arla Group strategy, Good Growth 2020”, commented Arla head of Europe, executive vice president Peter Giørtz-Carlsen. “However, since the site in Sonthofen no longer corresponds with our overall strategic aim, we are pleased to have found a suitable buyer to continue its production and legacy”.
Both companies have signed an agreement to finalize the transaction before 1st May 2018. Further details of the deal were not disclosed.
