Canadian dairy company Saputo has signed an agreement to acquire US goat’s cheese manufacturer Montchevre.
The announcement comes around a week after the firm announced it had agreed to acquire Australian dairy firm Murray Goulburn in a billion-dollar deal.
Monthchevre has a facility in Belmont, Wisconsin, with 320 employees involved in the manufacture, marketing and distribution of goat cheese in the USA.
Montchevre president Arnaud Solandt commented: “The decision to proceed with the sale of the company we’ve built is not a selfish one. It is based on the conviction that this alliance will provide a stronger, more secure market for our 500+ milk producers and will help propel Montchevre to new heights”.
“Montchevre has worked with Saputo for many years and together we have enjoyed many successes”, Mr Solandt added. “We have grown fond of Saputo’s ethics and their commitment to quality. It is their vision for the future that has led us to this decision”.
