Canadian meat processor Olymel has announced plans to invest C$8.1 million ($6.46 million) to expand its La Fernandiere plant in Trois-Rivieres.
According to sources, the plant’s surface area will be doubled from 24,000 sq ft to more than 45,000 sq ft, increasing capacity for production operations and warehousing as well as the installation of an additional line and new storage and shipping areas. A fifth production line will be reconfigured from current four, adding 500 pallets of extra storage room for frozen products and additional storage areas for raw and packing materials.
The plant currently produces and distributes La Fernandiere brand sausages as well as other sausages for the Olymel and Lafleur labels, together with private label brands.
Once the expansion is completed by December 2017, the total production capacity will increase from 14 million kg to nearly 20 million kg.
“By making this major investment, La Fernandière is giving itself the means to better meet the ever-increasing demand of the sausage market segment”, commented Olymel CEO Réjean Nadeau.
