Nestle, the consumer goods multinational. has announced the opening of a new distribution centre in Arvin (CA).
Spanning 700,000 square feet, the facility represents an investment of more than $330 million. The site is Nestle’s largest and most technologically advanced distribution centre to date and features the largest automated storage and retrieval systems within the company’s global network to handle shelf-stable goods. It will enable the delivery of products from brands including Gerber, Coffee Mate, and Nestle Toll House.
According to the company, the opening forms part of a broader $25 billion commitment to strengthen its US operations over a 10-year period beginning in 2020. The facility is designed to support flexible operations, increase supply chain agility, and bring more than 110 jobs to the Arvin community.
Nestle USA CEO Marty Thompson commented: “Our investment in the new Arvin Distribution Center reflects how we’re building Nestlé for the future, modernizing our supply chain and delivering for our customers and consumers with greater speed and precision”.
The facility aims to source 100% of its electricity from renewable solar and wind power, and plans to operate as a zero waste for disposal site.
