Mars Snacking, the US-based confectionery and snacks manufacturer plans to close its US headquarters in Newark, New Jersey, by the end of 2027 as it consolidates operations in Chicago.
The company filed a WARN notice in New Jersey stating that it will eliminate 307 jobs at its Newark headquarters by 16th October 2026. Mars originally transitioned its US headquarters to New Jersey in 2020 while keeping its global headquarters in Chicago.
The decision follows the company’s announcement in March to invest $100 million to expand its Chicago headquarters, creating 600 new jobs. The move aims to strengthen its presence in snacking following the acquisition of Kellanova, the owner of pringles and rice krispies treats, after which Mars Wrigley was renamed Mars Snacking.
Commenting on the strategy, the company stated: “This decision is part of our broader strategy to position Mars Snacking for long-term growth and strengthen our operations in key locations across North America”. Mars added that it will continue investing in its New Jersey operations, including ongoing innovation and manufacturing work in Hackettstown.
